With budgets stretched thin across the country and at home, giving can feel harder than ever—yet our communities need it more than ever. Here are four easy ways to give that won’t cost a dollar, but will make a difference.
1. Donate Your Time
A couple of hours a month can go a long way.
Call someone who’s homebound, take pictures of military families to send to their loved ones who are deployed, or gather friends to give free landscaping to a homebound neighbor.

2. Share Your Skills or Hobbies
What comes naturally to you might be a new adventure for someone else.
Share leftover craft supplies with moms who are home with preschoolers in a nearby apartment complex. Take teens fishing. Fix a car with a veteran. Help fly kites or paint faces at a foster kid’s birthday party.
Your everyday interests can create extraordinary moments.

3. Give What You Don’t Use
Got stuff collecting dust?
Pass along gently used toys or books, gift cards you won’t use, or kitchen gadgets you never tried. Once or twice a year, go through your things and ask:
“Who could use this more than I do?”
Check with schools, churches, neighbors, or local nonprofits.
